STEPS is a firearm orientation program for new gun purchasers.
The FIRST STEPS Orientation Program is designed to
provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and operation
of one specific firearm model (handgun or .22 calibre
rifle).
The FIRST STEPS Orientation Program conforms with the
requirements of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and is
conducted by certified NRA instructors.
The FIRST STEPS Orientation Program consists of a
one-on-one, three-hour session – using the participant's
firearm – that provides the participant with a thorough
introduction to firearm safety, handling, and shooting skills.
Approximately two hours are spent in the classroom and one hour on
the range.
Upon satisfactory completion of the program the
participant receives a NRA FIRST STEPS Orientation Completion Certificate.
